Events 2008-09 Bill Dunlap at Bill Hester Fine Art Bill Dunlap, whose paintings have been revered by North Carolinians for years, comes to Bill Hester Fine Art in downtown Chapel Hill. Mr. Dunlap is collected by museums, corporations and individuals throughout the world. His work hangs in many public places in North Carolina including the Kenan Center on the UNC, Chapel Hill campus, where he has three large canvases on view constantly.
If I may borrow from Jorge Luis Borges: Bill Dunlap has set out to portray his world which began with the fox dogs of his childhood and is leaving compositions of “our times (that) will intermingle and chronology will be lost in a sphere of symbols.” We, like Bill Dunlap’s Dogs and Borges, will dream and daydream our history. Bill Dunlap will be at the gallery on October 30th between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Bill Hester Fine Art is located at 143F West Franklin Street on the back side of University Square. Walter Horak at Bill Hester Fine Art We have new sculptures by Walter Horak, who will be here for an invitation-only cold supper on Friday, November 21st, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The dance group Pilobolus will be performing that evening at 8 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Walter’s bronze sculptures bring to mind images formed by that group. Memorial Hall is a short walk from Bill Hester Fine Art, which is located at 143F West Franklin Street, in Chapel Hill. Call 919-960-0059, or e-mail. Bill Dunlap’s show is still on view in the gallery. Come and enjoy both these fine artists. These artists are widely collected. |

GRAND OPENING at the log cabin The event will feature the spirit of Alson Alexander, Bill Hester's granpa and first muse, in words from Hester's book of poetry Flying Pimento Cheese Sandwiches. Paintings created by Bill's other muse, Susanna Hester, will also be featured. Susanna's paintings are sited by the sea in North Carolina and at Winslow Homer's beloved Prouts Neck, Maine. Her works contain the energy of the sea, land and air ... as did Homer's. Readings will take place at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. |

Plumages: Paintings by Joan Meade Featuring the landscapes of Joan Meade, another Chapel Hill artist. Her paintings will be accompanied by my poem titled Plumages, published in Poems from Lincoln Hill, The Cottage Press, Lincoln, Massachusetts, 1989. |
|
The Edge of Infinity: Paintings by Catharine Carter Featuring the abstract paintings of Catharine Carter of Chapel Hill and my poetry from Tapestry (Michelangelo Reweaving a Black Hole), published by Mandrake Poetry Review, Gliwice, Poland, 2000. |

Ladell was a West Texas hippie in the 60s who is still an unpretentious artist though her collectors are many and include presidents of universities and companies, including Father Biondi of St. Louis University and a couple of local leaders of corporate entities; movie stars, including an Academy Award winner; TV personalities as disparate as Imus and Sam Donaldson; sports heroes; and a lot of unknown admirers like Bill and Susanna Hester and a collector in Boston who has more than 100 pieces.
The paintings of Bill Dunlap are both classical and modern. His new painting titled, “Landscape and Variable: Down Wind Doric Dogs” contains the accidents of hyperreality in a composition of classical proportions.
Walter is a graduate of Harvard and Rhode Island School of Design and shows at galleries throughout the USA. His most recent show was in Santa Fe, NM, in October of this year. This is his third show at Bill Hester Fine Art.
